Claude Code's weekly limit drops 17%: what to run right now

MafraSeptember 3, 20263 min read

Starting September 14, 2026, Claude Code's weekly limit drops 17% from what you have today. Anthropic calls it a permanent 25% increase, and that's technically true, but only because it compares against an old baseline. Anyone who's been on the tool since May has been running on a temporary 50% bonus that goes away on that date. Both numbers are correct at the same time.

What actually changes in the weekly limit?

Your quota drops to a level lower than what you use today, even though it's higher than the original baseline from before May.

PeriodWeekly limit (% of original baseline)
Original baseline (before May 2026)100%
Temporary bonus (May to 2026-09-13)150%
Permanent from 2026-09-14125%
Drop from what you use today-17%

Applies to Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans.

Why does Anthropic say +25% while the news says -17%?

Both numbers are true, they just measure different things. +25% compares against the original baseline, before May's bonus. -17% compares against what you have available today, with the bonus still active. Anthropic itself re-edited its announcement post after developers pointed out on X that the first version only mentioned the +25% figure (BleepingComputer coverage, 2026-08-30).

I just hit the limit, what do I run, in what order?

Before waiting for the weekly reset, three commands cover most cases.

Flowchart: hit the Claude Code limit, run /usage to see what's left, then /context to find what's filling it, then /compact to shrink it; if still stuck, switch model with /model or reset with /clear
Commands verified against the official Anthropic documentation on 2026-09-03.
  • /usage — shows remaining quota and current session cost. /cost is an alias for the same command, not a different one.
  • /context — colored grid showing what's filling your context window.
  • /compact — summarizes the conversation so far and frees space without losing the thread.
  • /model — switches models and saves it as the default for new sessions, useful to drop to a cheaper tier.
  • /clear — starts from scratch. Frees everything, loses everything. Last resort.

Can I stop doing this math every week?

The underlying problem isn't which command to run, it's that the quota is weekly and shared across everything you do. On Verboo Code plans have no weekly token ceiling: unlimited tokens by design, so Friday's session doesn't compete with Monday's.

If the 17% cut hit your workflow mid-week, Verboo Code has no weekly limit to recalculate. Check it out at verboo.ai.
